Daal Dhokali/ Varan Fal
Recipe for Varan Fal/ daal Dhokali
Cook daal in the pressure cooker. Once it’s cooked, mash/ mix it really well so that it looks plain and smooth without any daal lumps. I took half Toor and half moong daal. Make a regular chapati dough, however, add some turmeric (and salt if you are not adding otherwise) into the wheat flour before you knead the dough.
Take a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Hing, curry leaves, green chilies, finely chopped tomato, and then add cooked daal, red chilly powder, coriander powder, Goda/ garam masala, some tamarind juice or kokum, jaggery, and salt. Add hot water to get your desired consistency. Let it boil on a low to medium flame.
Roll a regular size chapati and cut square/ rectangle pieces using a knife.. start dipping all those pieces into daal one after the other. Cook these dhoklas in daal for some time on a low to medium flame. Add hot water into daal as and when u feel it’s getting thicker. Once it’s cooked, garnish with cilantro and offer it to the Lord with ghee on top of hot daal Dhokalis.
